Cannabiz Media: Winning the 2024 Innovation Award is an immense honor for Cannabiz Media. In order to thrive as a SaaS company, we must stay ahead of the curve and deliver cutting-edge solutions. Ultimately, this achievement solidifies our position as a leader in the space, paving the way for continued growth and success in the future. More importantly, the award serves as a testament to our hard-working team and their commitment to excellence. As we like to say: there’s nothing artificial about our intelligence!
C&T Today: What inspired Cannabiz Media to develop the Cannabis Market Intelligence Platform, and how does it reflect the core values of your company?
CM: The idea for the Cannabis Market Intelligence Platform came about during a 50-mile bike ride between the two co-founders, Larry Schwartz and Ed Keating. The goal was simple: develop a product that filled a hole in an up-and-coming market, combining Larry and Ed’s individual skills and experiences. A decade later, Cannabiz Media is celebrating our 10-year anniversary, employs a team across nine states, and continues to stack awards on our shelves.
C&T Today: What has the past year been like for Cannabiz Media, and how has the Cannabis Market Intelligence Platform contributed to your growth or success?
CM: This past year was one of big changes. In SaaS, if you aren’t two steps ahead of your users’ needs, then you’re already behind. So, this past year, we moved toward an open platform concept that enables our users to easily migrate and leverage Cannabiz Media data within their own platforms and workflows. Not only did this require new feature rollouts, but it also required a complete restructuring of our subscription plans to make these tools accessible and affordable. Some of these new features and tools include Dynamic Exports, Sync—which lets you migrate data to 50+ other CRMs and platforms to integrate Cannabiz Media data into your workflow—and our collection of compliance and verification APIs.
C&T Today: What do you think it takes to be an award-winning brand or product in the cannabis industry today?
CM: To be an award-winning brand or product in the cannabis industry today, it takes a combination of quality, creative problem-solving, adaptability, and reliability.
C&T Today: How do you see your product impacting the cannabis industry in the next few years?
CM: The cannabis industry is at a pivotal sink-or-swim stage in its lifecycle, and the insights and tools offered by the Cannabis Market Intelligence Platform are key in helping it stay afloat. The impact is far-reaching, benefiting operators, ancillary businesses, and financial institutions alike who all need this data to grow their businesses, stay ahead of market trends, and make informed decisions.
C&T Today: If you could give one piece of advice to other innovators in the cannabis space, what would it be?
CM: Find your niche. One of the major problems presently facing the cannabis industry is oversaturation—not just in the number of operators but also service providers all trying to get a piece of the pie. Focus on your unique selling proposition and target an underserved niche to separate yourself from the rest.
C&T Today: What’s next for your company? Are there any exciting developments or goals you’re working toward in 2025 and beyond?
CM: As previously stated, we stay two steps ahead at all times, and our work toward being an open platform has just begun! In 2025, we are eagerly introducing a partnership with the Cannabiz Credit Association, which unites our collective data sets so that subscribers of both platforms can make smarter credit decisions.
