Multistate Cannabis Company Ayr Wellness Shuttering Locations as it ‘Winds Down’ Operations

Ayr Wellness, a multistate cannabis company based in Miami, Florida, is shuttering all of its operations in Massachusetts, MassLive reports. The closure of its four dispensaries, and its cultivations and manufacturing facilities, will lead to the layoffs of 157 people by the end of September.
The layoffs were included in a Massachusetts Workers Adjustment Retraining Notice filed with the state on July 31, and come on the heels of a July 30 Restructuring Support Agreement with its senior noteholders. That agreement includes a “wind-down” of the remainder of the company’s operations and a “liquidation of remaining assets from the wind-down.” Ayr produces its own products under the brand names Kynd, Haze, Later Days, and Levia, according to the company website.
In Massachusetts, Ayr has adult-use and medical cannabis dispensaries in Boston, Needham, Somerville, and Watertown under the Sira Naturals umbrella and, according to Cannabis Control Commission data, those licenses were active as of July 17.
The company also operates dispensaries in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In a July 31 letter to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation, Ayr indicated it planned to close two cultivation facilities in Sparks, leading to the layoff of 82 people.
