Maine Giving Away 12,000 Lockable Storage Bags Through Cannabis Retailers and Caregivers  

The Maine Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) is giving away 12,000 lockable storage bags as part of its “Safe Storage for ME” initiative. The number of bags is more than double the state gave away during 2024 – the first year of the program – when 5,000 of the bags were distributed through Maine cannabis retailers. 

This year, 140 medical and adult-use cannabis retailers, including medical cannabis caregivers, are partnering with OCP for the initiative. Bags will be available in early September at most participating retailers in Penobscot, Piscataquis, Kennebec, and Somerset counties and are expected to be available at all other participating retailers by early November.  

In a statement, John Hudak, OCP director, said that the 2024 pilot program “was very well received with positive feedback from patients, consumers, and businesses alike.”  

“OCP is pleased to help meet the continued demand for these bags so that cannabis products stay out of reach and out of sight from young people and pets.” — Hudak in a press release  

Any registered medical cannabis patient over the age of 18 and adult-use consumer over the age of 21 is eligible to receive one bag, no purchase necessary, while supplies last.
