Adult-Use Cannabis Sales in Michigan Reach $258M in April

Adult-use cannabis sales in Michigan totaled $258.17 million in April, according to state Cannabis Regulatory Agency data outlined by WZZM13. The figures were buoyed by 4/20 sales which reached $20.4 million, according to Michigan Cannabis Industry Association data.

The strong April totals represent a rebound for the state’s market, which in January saw $224.4 million in adult-use cannabis sales – the lowest amount since February 2023, the report says.

Last year, 4/20 sales in Michigan reached about $16 million; however, April 20 fell on Easter Sunday, which likely had a negative impact on sales.

The strong April comes amid a 24% wholesale tax imposed by lawmakers last year. Robin Schneider, executive director of the Michigan Cannabis Industry Association, told WZZM13 that while the industry is already feeling the effects of the tax, customers may not be, yet.

“We’re not to the point where customers are seeing that wholesale tax yet. [The retailers] still largely selling through the product that they purchased prior to the wholesale tax.” — Schneider to WZZM13

In 2025, prior to the tax rollout, retailers set a new per-pound sales record, but overall sales totals decreased for the first time since Michigan’s market launch due to lower prices. In all, retailers sold 260,000 more pounds of cannabis in 2025 than in 2024, but sales totaled about $3.17 billion – $113 million less than the 2024 sales total.

According to April sales data, the price of an ounce of adult-use cannabis flower was $59.05, which is up slightly from the 2025 year-end price of $58.22 per ounce.
