Delaware Sets Monthly Cannabis Sales Record, But Falls Short of Projections

Licensed cannabis retailers in Delaware set a new monthly sales record in July at $5.6 million, yet overall sales remain far below the program’s official projections, WHYY News reports.

Currently, the adult-use market is comprised only of medical cannabis retailers that were approved to begin selling adult-use products: the state has awarded 30 adult-use retail licenses, but none of the shops have opened for business yet. Officials said that one of the licensees is expected to open this month.

When lawmakers adopted the reforms in 2023, the state’s first marijuana commissioner, Robert Coupe, estimated $281 million in annual sales and $42 million in cannabis tax revenues, the report said.

Sales launched on August 1, 2025, and Delaware dispensaries sold more than $53.4 million worth of adult-use cannabis products during the industry’s first year of operations.

The current total is about $58.5 million.
