Georgia Regulators Approve Medical Cannabis Delivery Rules

The Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission last week voted to amend the medical cannabis program rules to allow for home delivery, WABE reports.

Under the rule change, licensed medical cannabis operators could start using the U.S. Postal Service or a private carrier to deliver their products directly to patients at home by the end of October. The services could also be used to deliver to long-term care facilities.

“Ultimately, the goal is to provide patient access to areas where patients cannot reasonably get to a dispensing license location. In many cases, a patient cannot drive or even travel, so they cannot get access in a traditional format that many patients are able to gain at dispensaries.” — Andrew Turnage, executive director of the Georgia Cannabis Commission, via WABE

Regulators also voted on new rules allowing colleges and universities to conduct cannabis research using products made for the state’s medical cannabis program.

Earlier this year, Georgia updated its medical cannabis program to significantly expand coverage, add new product types, and eliminate the program’s previous 5% THC cap. The program saw a spike in medical cannabis patient registrations following the expansion.
