University of Mississippi Partnering with Cannabis Brand on CBD Sleep Study 

The University of Mississippi is partnering with Southern Sky Brands to evaluate the effects of CBD on sleep quality among adults. Researchers with the National Center for Cannabis Research and Education (NCCRE) will examine sleep-related outcomes, including duration, quality, and participant-reported wellness measures. 

Robert Welch, PharmD, director of the NCCRE, said in a statement that the “collaboration reflects our shared commitment to generating high-quality scientific data that can help patients, healthcare professionals, and policymakers better understand the potential benefits of cannabinoids.” 

Charles Thompson, director of operations for Southern Sky Brands, added that “As a Mississippi company, [Southern Sky believes] investing in clinical research is essential to advancing patient care and building trust through science.”

The NCCRE was established in 2022. Famously, the University of Mississippi once held the only federal license to cultivate cannabis for more than 50 years through the federal National Institute on Drug Abuse Drug Supply Program.
