Marijuana Legalization In Texas? Believe It

Neither cannabis legalization nor President Donald Trump appeared on any ballots Tuesday, when voters across the country rejected the president’s agenda and handed Congress to the Democratic Party in an historic Election Night landslide.

But the blue wave that swept across Pennsylvania, Texas, the Carolinas and other states where Republican-led obstructionism has long blocked adult-use marijuana legalization is likely to unleash quick progress on cannabis reform, observers and advocates said Wednesday – including in some places where legal cannabis felt impossibly out of reach.

“It’s a great day for cannabis,” said Kevin Caldwell, senior manager of legislative affairs at the Marijuana Policy Project, a major advocacy organization.

“There are opportunities in areas that we’ve been stymied in for years to see real change.”
